GDPR: Cogelec names its DPO

Wednesday 25 April 2018

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25th May 2018 - Intratone, Cogelec's brand and market leader in GSM intercom, collects thousands of users' personal data every year.

Cogelec has appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure the protection and proper use of its users' data.

Until now, under the 1978 Data Protection Act, most processing of personal data has required declarations or requests for authorisation from the National Commission for Data Protection (CNIL). GDPR eliminates almost all of these formalities. It is based on the principle of stakeholder empowerment. Companies must ensure transparency in the processing of personal data. For this task, Cogelec has appointed Ms. Laëtitia Le Metayer of the law firm Nouveau Monde Avocats. Her tasks will include ensuring compliance with the legal framework, as well as informing and alerting the data controller if necessary. For residents whose names are listed in this huge database, the DPO will be the guarantor of the proper use and security of their personal data. She will also enable it to assert the new rights introduced by GDPR: digital legal age, the right to be forgotten, and the right to portability among others. Cogelec has not waited for the legislator to protect its users and their data, this approach is perfectly in line with the digital trust framework established with its customers and users.
